Warsaw, September 30 (Xinhua) — Ukrainian citizen Volodymyr Z., wanted by Germany on suspicion of involvement in the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions, was detained in Poland on Tuesday, the Polish publication RMF24 reported.

According to RMF24, the man was wanted on a European Arrest Warrant issued by a German court.

Vladimir Z. was reportedly detained in Pruszków, approximately 15 kilometers west of Warsaw, and taken to the Polish capital's prosecutor's office. Extradition proceedings are expected to begin soon.

His lawyer also confirmed that Vladimir Z. was detained on Tuesday in a small town near Warsaw.

According to RMF24, citing German authorities, the detainee is a diving instructor. In September 2022, he left Rostock for the Baltic Sea on a yacht and then dived to plant explosives on an underwater gas pipeline.
