The closing ceremony of the fourth Open World Astronomy Olympiad (Open World Astronomy Olympiad 2025) took place at the Sirius Federal University. The intellectual competition, held from September 20 to 27, brought together teams of high school students from more than 15 countries. All six members of the Russian team won gold medals, repeating their success from all three years of participation. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov congratulated the winners.

Our schoolchildren's remarkable victory at the International Astronomy Olympiad demonstrates that we have the key to maintaining this leadership: talented and passionate students. We are proud that all six team members once again won gold. I thank their parents, teachers, and mentors for their support and contribution to their preparation. I wish our winners continued interest in astronomy and a worthy application of their talents for the benefit of our entire country," the Deputy Prime Minister stated.
Ekaterina Churkina, Vladimir Zinin, Nikolai Gamynin, Olga Karaseva, Ivan Pruglo, and Margarita Tsvetkova won gold medals. Ekaterina Churkina became the overall winner of the Olympiad.

Hosting such a high-level competition in Russia is a landmark event, underscoring our commitment to developing scientific cooperation. The most talented schoolchildren from around the world have gathered at the Sirius Federal Campus. Astronomy is a significant science that not only reveals the secrets of the Universe but also shapes scientific understanding and teaches global thinking. I wholeheartedly congratulate our team on their brilliant success – all Russian participants once again won gold medals. I would like to express special gratitude to the mentors and coaches whose hard work, professionalism, and faith in their students are the foundation of these victories," noted Sergey Kravtsov.
In 2025, 18 participants from Russia, Belarus, Mongolia, Armenia, Peru, Egypt, Bangladesh, and Venezuela won gold medals. Sixteen schoolchildren each won silver and bronze medals.
Teams of six were formed from schoolchildren under 18. Students from 10 countries participated in the Olympiad in person, and high school students from Venezuela, Bulgaria, Mongolia, Bangladesh, and other countries joined them online. The competition consisted of four rounds: observation, practical, theoretical, and testing. All assignments were completed in English.
The Open World Astronomy Olympiad is an international competition for high school students, targeting students from the CIS, SCO, BRICS, and other friendly countries. The event aims to promote astronomy education, identify talented students, and strengthen international academic ties.
As a reminder, in 2024, 22 participants won gold medals: representatives from Russia, Bulgaria, Belarus, Armenia, and Peru. Russian schoolchildren were awarded six gold medals. Ekaterina Churkina of Russia was the overall winner.
