Beijing, September 29 (Xinhua) — Nankai University in Tianjin, northern China, recently launched joint programs with the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU) in Kazakhstan.
The opening ceremony of the academic year for the joint master's degree programs in economics, international business, and strategic trade control took place last Friday at Nankai University, according to the university's official website.
The event was attended by Nankai University Vice-Rector Sheng Bin, ENU Dean of the Faculty of Economics Aida Zhagyparova, and other ENU representatives.
Kazakhstan is of great importance to the advancement of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, Sheng Bin noted at the opening ceremony, adding that the launch of the above-mentioned programs represents the first step taken by Nankai University in cooperation with universities in Central Asian countries.
He noted that the program's two tracks—economics and international business, and strategic trade control—are closely linked to contemporary political and economic priorities. Nankai University will do everything possible to create satisfactory conditions for students to study and live, the university's vice-rector stated.
The joint academic programs between Nankai University and ENU were approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education in May of this year. During the Tianjin SCO Summit, which took place from August 31 to September 1, Nankai University and ENU signed a strategic cooperation agreement.
180 young Chinese students participated in the joint study programs. The two-year program for these master's students will be held at Nankai University with the participation of ENU faculty. Upon successful completion of their final exams and defense of their master's theses (or dissertations), they will receive a master's degree from ENU.
