The 20th Wuqiao International Circus Arts Festival opened on September 28 in Wuqiao County, Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, northern China. This year, for the first time, the festival's main events will be held in Wuqiao, the "birthplace of Chinese circus." Supporting events will run until October 8.
The current festival's competition program features 28 performances, including 22 outstanding international productions, presented by artists from 21 countries and regions, including Russia, the United States, and Australia. Three Golden Lion awards, five Silver Lion awards, and seven Bronze Lion awards will be awarded.
On the evening of September 28, Chinese and international circus performers presented dazzling performances. Their exceptional skill and captivating numbers delighted the audience, earning thunderous applause.
The festival will also feature a special program featuring 12 of China's finest circus acts, which have received funding from the China National Arts Foundation in recent years, showcasing the achievements of circus arts in China. Furthermore, events such as a circus arts exhibition and a joint exhibition of intangible cultural heritage of the Grand Canal will highlight local cultural flavor and offer tourists a rich cultural and tourist experience.
The China International Wuqiao Circus Arts Festival, held since 1987, has become one of the world's three largest circus arts venues, along with the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival (Monaco) and the Paris International Circus Festival "Tomorrow and Future" (France). Since its inception, the festival has brought together over 30,000 Chinese and international guests and circus performers from over 60 countries and regions.
