UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the ongoing military escalation between Israel and the Houthis in Yemen, his spokesman said on Saturday.
The Secretary-General remains deeply concerned about the risk of further escalation in the region and continues to call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, said the Secretary-General's spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, in a statement.
A. Guterres reminds all parties of their obligations to ensure respect for and protection of civilians at all times in accordance with international law, the statement said.
On Wednesday, the Houthis struck the Israeli city of Eilat with a drone, reportedly injuring 20 people, and on Thursday, Israel launched airstrikes on Sanaa, the Yemeni capital, reportedly killing at least nine people, including children, and injuring more than 150, the statement said.
