Suifenhe, Heilongjiang Province, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — A project to upgrade and modernize the railway section from Suifenhe in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province to the national border of the Harbin-Suifenhe Railway, an important part of the "eastern corridor" of China-Europe rail freight routes, was completed on Saturday.

Thus, the operation of China-Europe freight trains running through the Suifenhe railway checkpoint will continue on the modernized line, which will increase the speed of trains on it from 55 km/h to 120 km/h, and more than double the throughput capacity.

The Harbin–Suifenhe Railway, with a history spanning over 100 years, is Heilongjiang Province's largest rail transport corridor to Russia. The city of Suifenhe is located in the central zone of the Northeast Asian Economic Circle.

The aforementioned project, launched in May 2024 by the Harbin branch of China Railways, includes the construction of a tunnel, three bridges, and six roadbeds. Its commissioning will further expand cross-border transportation capabilities and improve railway safety.
