Guangzhou, September 26 (Xinhua) — Disaster recovery efforts are accelerating in southern China's Guangdong Province as Typhoon Ragasa, which made landfall in the province on Wednesday, has weakened to a tropical depression. The typhoon caused extensive damage, including downing numerous trees along both sides of roads, damaging infrastructure, and causing power outages. By 6 p.m. Thursday, Guangdong's typhoon emergency response level was downgraded to Level 4, the lowest.
More than 50,000 employees and 13,000 pieces of equipment were deployed to carry out emergency repairs, and by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, power had been restored to nearly 90 percent of customers affected by the typhoon, the Guangdong branch of South China Grid Company reported.
On Hailing Island, one of the areas hardest hit by the typhoon in Guangdong Province, power was mostly restored within hours after it was cut off following the typhoon's landfall. -0-
