Vladivostok, September 26 (Xinhua) — A high-alert regime has been declared in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative center of the Kamchatka Krai, due to an increase in bear incursions into the city. This was reported on Friday by RIA Novosti, citing the city's mayor, Yevgeny Belyaev.

According to a report, on Thursday in the regional center, as a result of an attack by a predator that appeared on the territory of the 3rd school, a woman was taken to intensive care with scalp wounds; it was not possible to save her.

"Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky has declared a high alert due to the increasing number of bears entering the city. Over the past 24 hours, emergency services have received several calls reporting bears. All calls have been processed," E. Belyaev reported on his Telegram channel.

According to the mayor, bear sightings during this period are relatively common due to the city's location surrounded by wildlife. He added that foxes and lynxes often venture into the city alongside bears. –0–
