Beijing, September 26 (Xinhua) — A delegation led by Oleg Deripaska, founder of Rusal, one of the world's largest aluminum smelters, visited the Chongyang Institute at Renmin University of China on September 25. During the visit, the two sides held in-depth discussions on key topics, including Sino-Russian relations, bilateral trade, and people-to-people exchanges.

As reported on the institute's website, in his speech, Chongyang's head, Wang Wen, noted that although current trade and economic cooperation between China and Russia is developing dynamically, its deep potential has not yet been fully realized.

He emphasized that strengthening the people-centered foundation of the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between China and Russia in the new era is one of the key tasks for advancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

In his opinion, to achieve high-quality development of Chinese-Russian relations, government efforts and trade and economic exchanges alone are not enough; strengthening contacts between peoples and achieving deep mutual understanding between people are of key importance.

Oleg Deripaska stated that cooperation between Russia and China should not be limited to the economic sphere. He expressed the opinion that there remains significant untapped potential in the area of humanitarian exchanges in bilateral relations.

He said the peoples of the two countries need to work through long-term exchanges and cooperation to improve each other's image in their own countries in order to properly and effectively promote rapprochement between their peoples and lay a solid social foundation for bilateral relations.

The two sides also held in-depth exchanges of views on topics such as academic exchanges between China and Russia, strategic cooperation between the two countries, and Russia's public diplomacy. -0-
