SHANGHAI, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) — A meeting of senior law enforcement officials from the North Pacific Coast Guard was held in China to promote cross-regional exchanges and cooperation on maritime security and maritime stability.
The event, which ran from Monday to Friday in Shanghai, eastern China, brought together more than 80 representatives from countries including Canada, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, the United States and China.
According to the China Coast Guard (CCG), the meeting participants discussed jointly combating transnational maritime crimes such as migrant smuggling and drug trafficking, strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation in maritime law enforcement and joint operations, and coordinating patrols to enforce fisheries regulations on the high seas in the North Pacific.
They also discussed sharing experiences in maritime emergency rescue and environmental protection, strengthening information exchange between law enforcement agencies, and organizing joint exercises within the North Pacific Coast Guard Forum. A preliminary consensus was also reached on cooperation plans for next year.
During the meeting, BOC shared its experience in using carbon sinks to protect the marine environment and organized visits to its vessels and local offices for delegates. -0-
