Washington, September 23 (Xinhua) – Kyiv, with the support of Europe and NATO, is capable of "fighting and returning all of Ukraine to its original state," US President Donald Trump expressed this opinion on the social media platform TruthSocial on Tuesday.

These words signal a sharp shift in the White House's position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Trump had previously spent months insisting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy make concessions to secure a ceasefire with Russia, claiming that Kyiv had "no bargaining chips" in the negotiations.

“After I have learned and fully understood the military and economic situation of Ukraine and Russia, and after I have seen the economic problems it is creating for Russia, I believe that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is capable of fighting and returning all of Ukraine to its original state,” the head of the White House wrote.

“With time, patience, and financial support from Europe, and NATO in particular, a return to the original borders where this war began is entirely possible,” Trump noted.

"We will continue to supply weapons to NATO so that NATO can do with them what it wants," he said.

During a meeting with V. Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York earlier on Tuesday, D. Trump told reporters that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft that violate their airspace.

In a letter dated Saturday and addressed to the President of the UN Security Council, Estonia reported that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered the country's airspace on Friday at a distance of up to 10 km and remained there for 12 minutes.

Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, rejected this statement and accused European states of Russophobia.

China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Geng Shuang, stressed on Monday that China calls on relevant parties to maintain calm and exercise restraint, clarify facts and dispel doubts through dialogue and communication, avoid misunderstandings and misjudgments, and prevent the situation from expanding or escalating.
