Beijing, September 24 (Xinhua) — State Council Taiwan Affairs Office Spokesperson Chen Binhua on Wednesday expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of Taiwanese compatriots as a result of Typhoon Ragasa, which struck Taiwan. He also extended condolences to the families of the victims and those affected by the disaster.
Typhoon Ragasa caused a landslide on the Matai'an River in Hualien County, Taiwan, to overflow, causing casualties and material damage.
“We hope that those affected by the disaster and those affected by it will return to normal life and production as soon as possible,” Chen Binhua said in a press release.
Typhoon Ragasa had killed 14 people on the island and injured 18 others as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to Taiwan's disaster response center.
