BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) — China has established a complete industrial chain system for key intelligent connected vehicle technologies, covering intelligent cockpit, autonomous driving, and cloud connectivity and control technologies, according to the Chinese daily Keji Ribao (Science and Technology).
The scale of China's intelligent connected vehicle industry is growing rapidly, Guo Shougang, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said at a press conference held for the 2025 World Conference on Intelligent Connected Vehicles (WICV-2025) in Beijing.
According to Guo Shougang, from January to July 2025, 7.76 million new passenger cars equipped with Level 2 (L2) combined driver assistance functions were sold in China, representing a penetration rate of 62.58 percent, with more than 3 million cars equipped with 5G and C-V2X (cellular communication that allows the car to communicate with other road users and the network) technologies.
China is accelerating the development of 20 pilot cities for the integration of the "car-road-cloud" process, with more than 35,000 km of test and demonstration roads opened during the construction, he said.
The country will also accelerate the development of urgently needed standards for combined driver assistance systems, automated driving systems and automatic emergency braking systems.
China's Ministry of Transport plans to release an action plan for integrating AI into the transportation sector, bringing together the industry and the public to build a comprehensive transportation megamodel and accelerate the popularization of intelligent assistant technologies.
As a key link in the integrated development of automotive technologies with AI, ICT, cloud computing, and big data, intelligent connected vehicles have become a strategic compass guiding the transformation and modernization of the global automotive industry.
Since 2018, WICV has been held for the seventh time in a row, and WICV-2025 is scheduled for October 16-18. -0-
