BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) — China's electricity consumption, considered a key indicator of economic activity, continued to grow in August 2025, the National Energy Administration (NEA) said on Tuesday.

According to the State Energy Service, in August of this year, total electricity consumption in the country increased by 5 percent year-on-year and amounted to almost 1.02 trillion kWh.

Data from the State Energy Inspectorate shows steady growth in electricity consumption across various sectors in China.

In the primary sector, there was an increase in electricity consumption of 9.7 percent, which amounted to 16.4 billion kWh.

In the secondary sector, the figure increased by 5 percent year-on-year to 598.1 billion kWh, while in the tertiary sector, electricity consumption increased by 7.2 percent to 204.6 billion kWh.

In August, electricity consumption by urban and rural residents of the country increased by 2.4 percent year-on-year to 196.3 billion kWh.

In the first eight months of this year, China's total electricity consumption reached nearly 6.88 trillion kWh, up 4.6 percent year-on-year. -0-
