Beijing, September 23 (Xinhua) — The National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays in China will last from October 1 to 8 this year. Amid China's trial visa-free regime for Russian citizens with ordinary passports, the total number of flight bookings from Russia to China during the eight-day holiday exceeded 28,000, with the average daily number of flight bookings on this route increasing by approximately 33 percent compared to the same period last year, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
According to the publication, citing data from Umetrip, the official mobile platform for real-time flight information, as of September 17, the number of domestic flight bookings in China for the upcoming holidays exceeded 5.93 million. Meanwhile, the number of international airline tickets arriving in China from abroad exceeded 740,000, and the average daily number of bookings for such flights increased by approximately 16 percent year-on-year.
As a reminder, China has introduced a trial visa-free regime for Russian citizens holding regular passports from September 15, 2025 to September 14, 2026.
Russian citizens holding valid regular passports can visit China visa-free for business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, exchanging visits, and transit purposes, provided their stay in China does not exceed 30 days, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Moreover, according to data from the Beijing Administration of Culture and Tourism, the number of international tourists visiting Beijing in August of this year totaled 446,000, an increase of more than 30 percent year-on-year. The main source countries for this tourist flow were Russia, the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Japan, and Vietnam.
The inbound tourism market is steadily improving thanks to measures to simplify tourist visa procedures and stimulate consumption. From the beginning of 2025 to the end of July, the influx of foreign tourists entering the Chinese capital reached 2.916 million person-times, an increase of 46.2 percent year-on-year, and the total amount spent by tourists during their stay in Beijing amounted to $3.78 billion, an increase of 49.6 percent year-on-year.
As of August 25, 2025, China has introduced a unilateral visa-free regime for 47 countries, as well as 240-hour visa-free transit for citizens of 55 countries. -0-
