The second season of the unique "Jazz in Moscow Schools" project has begun in the capital. In the new academic year, its audience has expanded significantly: fifth- and sixth-graders, college students, and students from supplementary education centers have joined the 7th-11th-grade students. Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.
"Moscow education places great emphasis on the well-rounded development of children, including aesthetic development. Last year, 25 jazz concerts featuring world music masterpieces were held in Moscow schools, attended by over seven thousand schoolchildren. Given the project's immense popularity, we decided to expand its audience in the new season. Now, not only high school students but also middle school students, college students, and students at supplementary education centers will be able to hear performances by the Big Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Petr Vostokov. We want as many young Muscovites as possible to experience this musical genre and meet creative people," said Anastasia Rakova.
At the concerts, professional artists will perform classical and contemporary jazz compositions and share the history and secrets of the genre. Participants will have the opportunity to hear works by Duke Ellington, Oleg Lundstrem, George Gershwin, and other renowned composers. After each performance, audience members will have the opportunity to interact with the musicians in an informal setting. The first concert of the new season took place at School No. 37 and was attended by over 500 people.
"The 'Jazz in Moscow Schools' project, which launched last year, demonstrated that children are interested in good music. Moreover, jazz isn't just music, but an entire culture with its own history and traditions. At each performance, we tell the children about how jazz came to Russia, how it developed, and what it's like today. This year, the project will continue with new venues and new audiences," noted Petr Vostokov, director of the Bolshoi Jazz Orchestra.
The Jazz in Moscow Schools project is a joint initiative of the capital's Department of Education and ScienceThe Big Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Petr Vostokov, and the LSR Group company will perform. Concerts will be held in schools, colleges, and supplementary education centers throughout the academic year.
