URUMQI, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday met with representatives of various ethnic groups and people from all walks of life in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and called for joint efforts to better build a beautiful Xinjiang in China's modernization drive.
Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, arrived in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, earlier in the day to attend celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the autonomous region.
On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, Xi Jinping expressed sincere greetings and warm wishes to representatives of various ethnic groups in Xinjiang.
He held separate meetings with local officials, leaders of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, as well as representatives of personnel who come to work in Xinjiang from other regions of the country, political and legal workers and police officers, as well as patriotic representatives of religious circles.
Xi Jinping also met with senior military personnel of the rank of colonel and above, as well as role models and civilian personnel from the troops stationed in Urumqi. On behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, he extended sincere greetings to all officers and soldiers in Xinjiang.
