Canberra, September 22 (Xinhua) — The Australian government's decision to recognize Palestinian statehood represents a step forward toward a peaceful settlement in the Middle East, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Monday.
E. Albanese and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, while in New York, announced on Sunday that their country had officially recognized the independent and sovereign State of Palestine.
Australia has been advocating for the principle of "two states for two peoples" since the State of Israel was declared in 1948, E. Albanese said in an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
