Yerevan, September 22 (Xinhua) — Armenia's public debt increased by 7.9 percent in dollar terms in the first half of 2025, reaching $13.85 billion, Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan said at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on financial, credit, and budgetary issues on Monday.

Presenting the report on Armenia's state budget execution for the first half of the year, the head of the department noted that over the six months, the country's public debt increased by 4.5 percent in dram (the dram is the national currency of Armenia) and by 7.9 percent in dollar terms. The difference is due to the discrepancy between the dram's exchange rate against the US dollar at the end of 2024 and on June 30, 2025.

According to V. Hovhannisyan, the government's debt portfolio risk indicators are within the established benchmarks. The average weighted interest rate in the first half of 2025, compared to the end of 2024, remained unchanged at 7.2 percent.
