CHENGDU, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) — The winners of the 16th Xingyun Science Fiction Awards were announced in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Saturday.

The 2024 Annual Novel Prize Gold Prize was awarded to Yang Wanqing for his novel "Jintao" (Golden Peaches). Set during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the novel tells the story of a super-algorithm, inspired by ancient Chinese mathematical classics, that governs the functioning of ancient civilizations. The story intertwines humanity, machines, and history.

In addition, awards were presented in other categories this year: Best Novel, Best Short Story, Best Translation, Best Non-Fiction, and Best New Author. The Best Review award was not presented this year.

The award ceremony not only recognizes outstanding works and authors, but also comprehensively showcases the achievements of Chinese science fiction literature in the development of a more diverse and vibrant future.

As renowned science fiction writer Liu Cixin said in his speech at the awards ceremony, these works reveal greater potential in China and the world in the field of science fiction. He added that these works give people reason to believe that Chinese science fiction is entering a golden age.

The Xingyun Chinese Science Fiction Awards, also known as the Chinese Nebula Awards, was established in 2010 and has now become a widely recognized high-level industry award for global Chinese science fiction. -0-
