Beijing, September 20 (Xinhua) — Since the beginning of 2025, authorities in Heilongjiang Province (Northeast China), which borders Russia, have been actively developing inbound tourism. Thanks to this, in the first half of this year, Russian tourist flow to Heilongjiang exceeded 145,000 people, which is 37.4 percent more than in the same period last year.
According to the news website Chinanews.com.cn, citing data from the provincial Administration of Culture and Tourism, on September 15, the day China introduced a 30-day visa-free entry regime for Russian citizens with regular passports, the influx of Russian tourists entering Heilongjiang Province jumped 107 percent compared to the previous day.
"The visa-free policy is expected to further promote inbound tourism," Zhong Hua, deputy head of the provincial Bureau of Culture and Tourism, said at a press conference on Friday.
According to the agency, Heilongjiang Province's tourism industry experienced a boom from January to August this year. Domestic and international tourist arrivals to Heilongjiang Province totaled 184 million person-times during the reporting period, with the total amount spent by tourists during their stay in the province amounting to 250.18 billion yuan, an increase of 11.9 percent and 21.2 percent year-on-year, respectively. Among them, 1.107 million outbound tourists spent 12.13 billion yuan in Heilongjiang Province, with both figures increasing by 54.9 percent and 61.7 percent year-on-year, respectively.
As Zhong Hua noted, during the summer holidays, many cities in Heilongjiang Province attracted large numbers of travelers, with Yichun and Harbin becoming popular destinations for escaping the heat.
With the National Day of the People's Republic of China and the Zhongqiujie (Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival) approaching, Heilongjiang Province is already preparing to welcome tourists with a variety of cultural and tourist events, she added. -0-
