BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) — Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun held separate meetings on Friday with his Mongolian and Laotian counterparts who arrived in Beijing to attend the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum.
In separate meetings, Dong Jun stressed the urgent need to maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region amid accelerating global changes unseen in a century.
According to the Chinese Minister of Defense, China is committed to advancing defense and security cooperation with neighboring countries to strengthen strategic mutual trust and protect each other's fundamental interests.
Mongolian Defense Minister Dambyn Batlut, for his part, noted that maintaining constant good-neighborly friendship with China and developing long-term mutually beneficial cooperation are priorities of Mongolia's foreign policy, and also expressed hope for developing cooperation with China in areas such as peacekeeping, border security, and joint military exercises.
Lao Defense Minister Khamlieng Uthakaysone, in turn, reaffirmed the country's commitment to strengthening friendship and cooperation with China in the field of defense, and also expressed its readiness to contribute to the construction of a Lao-Chinese community of shared destiny.
