Yerevan, September 19 (Xinhua) — Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan announced the launch of a high-level political dialogue between Armenia and the European Union (EU) on Friday. He made the announcement in Yerevan in a joint statement with EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos following bilateral discussions.

It was noted that this will become a new platform for jointly discussing the implementation of multi-sector budget support within the framework of the "Armenia Resilience and Growth" program, approved by the EU in April 2024. It was emphasized that the parties had effective discussions on the priorities of the Armenia-EU partnership, the steps planned in this direction, and prospects for deepening cooperation. It was noted that visa liberalization is a key component of bilateral relations.

Consistent work towards the full implementation of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement also continues.

M. Grigoryan hopes that the new agenda for bilateral relations will be approved by the Armenia-EU Partnership Council, which will meet in Brussels this year.

M. Kos, in turn, stated that the EU will allocate over €200 million to Armenia as part of the second phase of the "Resilience and Growth for Armenia" program. This funding will be used to stimulate investment in the development of connectivity, resilience, and business. The EU is ready to support Armenia in projects in the areas of transport, digitalization, trade, energy, and infrastructure. The EU Commissioner noted that since 2021, Armenia has attracted over €2.5 billion in investments.

She also announced the signing of an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) aimed at improving customs operations and supporting the needs of refugees and the communities hosting them.

Specifically, the EBRD will provide Armenia with a state-guaranteed loan of €39 million to finance the construction of a new customs and logistics center on the outskirts of Yerevan. This amount will be supplemented by a €6 million grant from the EU.
