SHANGHAI, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) — The Zhangjiang AI Innovation City opened Tuesday in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, China's first artificial intelligence (AI) pilot zone. The city aims to bring together 1,000 AI enterprises with an industrial value of 100 billion yuan (approximately $14.08 billion) by 2030, creating a globally influential AI innovation hub.
The 2-square-kilometer city is located in the center of Zhangjiang Science City. It includes 700,000 square meters of industrial areas and 1 million square meters of auxiliary facilities, including conference halls and residential areas.
According to Zhu Hui, General Manager of Shanghai Zhangjiang Sciengate Towers Technology Development Co., Ltd., the AI Innovation City will showcase the advantages of AI industry clustering, establish a comprehensive support system, promote industrial upgrading, and help Pudong build a world-class AI cluster.
Ten high-quality development policies aimed at encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship in Zhangjiang were also unveiled, offering subsidies such as computing power vouchers and support for public service platforms. A 2 billion yuan seed fund, established by the Pudong district government, will partner with over 20 institutions to provide financial services throughout the entire lifecycle.
