Bogotá, September 17 (Xinhua) — At least five people were killed and seven others injured in a fire at a police station in the city of Funsa, Cundinamarca Department, central Colombia, department Governor Jorge Emilio Rey announced on Wednesday.
"Those in custody apparently burned mattresses and started a fire," the governor wrote on social media, adding that the wounded were in intensive care.
The governor said he had instructed local police and the Colombian Attorney General's Office to "launch an investigation to determine the causes of this tragic event."
Relatives of the victims accused the authorities of failing to take timely measures to rescue the detainees, and of firefighters arriving late.
In response to these accusations, the department governor stated that the relevant authorities would conduct an investigation into the incident. –0–
