AMMAN, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) — Jordan's King Abdullah II and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met here on Wednesday and jointly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, vowing to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
A statement released by the Royal Hashemite Court of Jordan said the king condemned Israel's recent strike on Doha, as well as Israel's expanding ground operation in the Gaza Strip, and warned against Israeli violations at holy sites in Jerusalem.
He stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and unimpeded humanitarian access to the enclave and expressed support for Qatar's mediation efforts, the statement said.
Both leaders reaffirmed their support for the legitimate rights of Palestinians.
The parties also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic and investment cooperation and called for the intensification of the activities of the Jordan-Qatar Joint Higher Committee, the statement said.
Calling the meeting "constructive," the Qatari Emir's office, the Amiri Diwan, reported on social media that both sides emphasized the need to coordinate bilateral efforts and strengthen joint Arab action to address looming risks in the region.
The priority must be to end the suffering of the Palestinians by finding a peaceful and comprehensive solution to their just cause in accordance with the decisions of international legitimate bodies, the office said.
