St. Petersburg, September 18 (Xinhua) — In St. Petersburg, the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation foiled the activities of three Russian citizens who were planning to blow up the car of the head of a defense industry enterprise. The agency's press service reported this on Thursday.

According to reports, on orders from a Ukrainian handler, two detainees were monitoring a target for an assassination attempt. Using a cache set up in a cemetery, they handed over an improvised explosive device to the perpetrator. The perpetrator was apprehended by FSB officers while planting a car bomb.

Law enforcement officials are continuing investigative actions with the aim of further qualifying the actions of those detained under articles on participation in a terrorist organization and treason. –0–
