The capital's medical colleges have begun celebrating the White Coat Day holiday. This year, it will be attended by almost 5.5 thousand first-year students, which is 12 percent more than in 2024. In a festive atmosphere, the students put on coats symbolizing their entry into the professional community, and also accept congratulations from teachers and doctors of the city's leading hospitals. Thus, in Medical College No. 1, celebrations were held both in the main building on Leninsky Prospekt and in branches on Ivanteyevskaya Street, Kashirskoye Shosse and Chuksin Tupik. First-year students took an oath, put on white coats to applause and received symbolic keys of knowledge. The festive program was supplemented by concert numbers and a tour of modern simulation rooms.
"A white coat for our first-year students is a symbol of trust and the first step into a professional future. From the very beginning of their studies, the students are immersed in work: they master modern technologies, learn from specialists from leading clinics in the capital. Such a start helps them quickly feel like real doctors, and the city gets trained and motivated specialists who can be trusted with the most important thing – people's health. Today, we see that more and more young Muscovites are consciously choosing a medical education: they understand that this profession will always be in demand and respected," said Angela Gekkieva, Director of Medical College No. 1.
In medical colleges No. 6 and 7, the holiday was combined with Knowledge Day. First-year students were presented with student cards and the main symbol of the profession — a white coat. In the St. Demetrius School of Sisters of Mercy, in addition to teachers, church representatives congratulated the children. They emphasized that the color white symbolizes purity of intentions and professional honor.
In Medical College No. 2, festive events are held in the format of informal meetings. Leading healthcare specialists act as speakers. Thus, acting deputy chief physician for work with nursing staff of the Moscow Multidisciplinary Clinical Center "Kommunarka" Evgeny Pozdnyakov-Davydov has already shared his experience with first-year students. The next meeting will take place on September 18, and will be attended by Olesya Tanshina, deputy chief physician for work with nursing staff of City Clinical Hospital No. 15 named after O.M. Filatov.
On the same and the following days, the holiday will be celebrated at Medical College No. 5. The symbol of the celebration will be a tree, which will be placed in a pot at the entrance to the building. The children will be able to tie ribbons on the branches and make wishes related to the profession. The culmination of the event will be the "Hearts of Unity" campaign. During the oath, teachers will hand the first-year students scarlet glass hearts, which they will raise above the hall as a sign of compassion and readiness to devote themselves to patients.
