BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) — The two-day trade and economic talks between China and the United States that concluded in Madrid on Monday once again demonstrated that rational dialogue serves the interests of both sides.

During the talks, the Chinese and US delegations held frank, in-depth, and constructive discussions and reached a basic framework consensus on resolving TikTok-related issues through cooperation, reducing investment barriers, and promoting relevant trade and economic cooperation.

China's position on TikTok is clear and consistent. The country opposes the politicization, instrumentalization, and weaponization of technological, trade, and economic issues.

During the Madrid talks, the Chinese side reaffirmed that China will never seek to reach any agreement at the expense of principles, the interests of companies, or international fairness and justice. China will firmly protect national interests and the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and issue technology export permits in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The Chinese government fully respects the will of Chinese companies and supports them in conducting equal business negotiations in accordance with market principles.

Sino-American trade and economic negotiations must never deviate from the fundamental principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. China reached a consensus on this with the United States, as China concluded in its assessment that this serves the interests of both sides.

While the negotiations were achieved, they were hard-won, and their foundation remains fragile. Despite a series of trade and economic consultations between the two countries, the United States continued to expand sanctions against Chinese companies. The American side cannot, on the one hand, demand that China take its concerns into account while, on the other, continuing to pressure Chinese companies. Such contradictory actions only seriously undermine the atmosphere of cooperation and negate the hard-won results of the negotiations.

The essence of trade and economic relations between China and the United States is mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. Both countries gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation.

It is hoped that the US will take the basic framework consensus reached during the Madrid talks as a new starting point, move in the same direction with China, demonstrate sincerity through concrete actions, lift restrictions on China as soon as possible, stop putting pressure on Chinese enterprises, and work together to preserve the hard-won results of the consultations.

Looking ahead, Washington should work with Beijing to make full use of the mechanism of bilateral trade and economic consultations, continue to expand common ground while resolving differences, and return China-US trade and economic relations to the path of healthy, stable, and sustainable development.
