JINAN, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) — A symposium on China's modernization and human rights protection was held in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province, on Tuesday, gathering nearly 100 experts and scholars to discuss theoretical innovations and practical experiences on human rights in China's modernization process.
Lu Guangjin, deputy head of the China Society for Human Rights Studies and professor at Jilin University, said that China's modernization has created a new form of human rights civilization.
Chang Jian, director of the Human Rights Studies Center at Nankai University, noted that people's democracy has realized the combination of the people's will with the leadership of the CPC, direct democracy with indirect democracy in the whole process, and covers all processes including democratic elections, consultation, decision-making, management and supervision.
Professor Luo Yanhua of the Institute of International Relations at Peking University emphasized that Chinese modernization adheres to a human-oriented approach and sets as its main goal modernization and free, comprehensive development of the individual.
According to her, China's modernization upholds the principles of promoting human rights through development, win-win cooperation, and building a community with a shared future for mankind, bringing Chinese wisdom and solutions to global human rights governance.
