LONDON, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) — Thousands of protesters marched through central London on Wednesday to protest US President Donald Trump's second state visit to the UK. The British royal family was hosting the American president at Windsor Castle.
Protesters waved signs criticizing US policies on immigration, Gaza and climate change as they marched to the sound of trumpets and drums from Portland Place to Parliament Square.
Amanda, a US citizen, said she traveled to London from Los Angeles just for the protest. "I think things are really bad right now. We don't have good leadership, and I'm really worried about the direction the United States and the world are heading," she said.
Local police reported on Wednesday that they estimated up to 5,000 people participated in the protest. On Tuesday, law enforcement announced that more than 1,600 officers would be deployed to maintain public order during the large demonstration and warned that the event should end by 7:00 p.m. local time.
