Harbin, September 17 (Xinhua) — The world premiere of the film "731" (Evil Unbound) about Unit 731 took place on Wednesday in Harbin, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, where a Japanese army unit was based for committing grave atrocities against humanity. The film depicts the crimes committed by the Japanese invaders in China.

The film "731" tells the story of Wang Yongzhang, a local merchant, and others forcibly imprisoned in the "special prison" of Unit 731, where they were lured with false promises of freedom in exchange for cooperation in supposed medical examinations and disease prevention research, but became victims of horrific medical experiments, including frostbite tests, gas exposure, and vivisection.

The base of Unit 731, a secret Japanese army unit engaged in the research and development of biological and chemical weapons, was established in the Pingfang area of Harbin and served as the main center of Japanese germ warfare in China and Southeast Asia during World War II. -0-
