HONG KONG, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) — Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Chief Executive Lee Jiachao on Wednesday unveiled a series of measures to improve people's lives in his fourth policy address, focusing on employment, poverty alleviation and family support.
"Improving people's living conditions is my key priority. The economy and people's living conditions are mutually reinforcing," said Li Jiachao.
According to him, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will prioritize the employment of local specialists, strengthen labor protections, including protection for digital platform workers, and improve occupational safety and health.
Regarding poverty alleviation, the Hong Kong administration will continue to take a targeted approach, directing resources to those who need them most. Key measures include allocating 180 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately 23.14 million US dollars) to the Child Development Fund to continue implementing projects that promote the long-term development of upper primary school students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will implement further measures to encourage the birth rate by extending the application period for the Additional Newborn Allowance and improving infant and child care services.
Other measures to improve living conditions include increasing the supply of housing, improving care for the elderly and supporting people in rehabilitation. -0-
