KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — At least 11 people were killed and several others were missing on Monday in landslides triggered by prolonged heavy rains in Malaysia's northern Borneo state of Sabah.
The natural disaster occurred in a village near the state capital of Kota Kinabalu.
The floods have displaced more than 1,788 people in the state, with the victims being housed in 12 relief centres, according to the country's social welfare department.
On Monday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced an additional RM10 million (US$2.38 million) in aid to the victims, on top of the RM11 million already allocated. He also called on Malaysians to come together and help those in need. –0–
