BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — China's grain production hit a new record during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), exceeding 700 million tonnes for the first time last year, up 37 million tonnes from 2020, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Jun said at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to official data, the growth in grain production was facilitated by the improvement of agricultural land infrastructure and the development of agricultural technologies.

China has more than 1 billion mu (66.7 million hectares) of high-standard arable land. At the same time, technological progress has become a key factor in increasing grain yield, with its contribution reaching 63.2 percent.

Farmers' incomes have been growing steadily since 2021, with per capita disposable income in rural areas set to reach 23,119 yuan (about $3,255) in 2024, the press conference said.
