BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday congratulated La'auli Leuatea Schmidt on his assumption of office as prime minister of the Independent State of Samoa.
In his message, Li Qiang noted that Samoa was among the first Pacific island states to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China.
As the head of the Chinese government emphasized, over the 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Samoa relations have demonstrated healthy, stable and sustainable development, improving the well-being of the peoples of both countries.
He said China highly appreciates Laauli Leuatea Schmidt's long-standing commitment to promoting Samoa's friendship with China and his firm adherence to the one-China principle.
Li Qiang expressed his willingness to make joint efforts with the new head of the Samoan government to strengthen mutual political trust, expand friendly exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and take the China-Samoa comprehensive strategic partnership to a new height for greater benefits to the two peoples. –0–
