WARSAW, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — Polish President Karol Nawrocki on Monday vowed to step up exchanges and deepen cooperation with China, praising the friendship between the two countries.

During a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who arrived in Poland on a visit, Nawrocki asked him to convey his greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and expressed admiration for China's outstanding achievements in development.

Poland was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with China, and the two countries have always maintained good friendship, the Polish President emphasized.

K. Navrotsky noted that, as a historian, he is well aware of the enormous sacrifices and contribution of China to the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

Poland, he continued, cherishes the traditional friendship with China and hopes to strengthen exchanges, deepen cooperation, learn from history, and promote the sustainable development of bilateral relations, so as to jointly safeguard world peace and security.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, conveyed greetings to K. Nawrocki from Chinese President Xi Jinping, noting that under the strategic leadership of the two heads of state, the China-Poland comprehensive strategic partnership continues to develop steadily.

According to the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, for more than half a century, friendship has remained the main theme, and cooperation has been the dominant trend in Chinese-Polish relations, despite all the changes in the international situation.

China highly values the role and influence of Poland in Europe and the world, Wang Yi emphasized, stating China's readiness to further deepen strategic mutual trust, strengthen strategic cooperation and jointly develop the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Chinese diplomat expressed hope that Poland would play an active role in helping the EU form an objective and rational perception of China.

According to him, China, which became the main theater of military operations in the East during World War II, was the first to repel Japanese militarism, fought for the longest time and made enormous national sacrifices, thereby making a significant historical contribution to the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.

Wang Yi informed K. Navrotsky about the commemorative events that took place in China in early September and emphasized the importance of remembering history, honoring war heroes, preserving peace and building a better future.

China and Poland are independent countries that firmly defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, Wang Yi said, adding that attempts by separatist forces seeking “Taiwan independence” to split the country and challenge the victorious results of World War II are a challenge to the entire world and are doomed to failure.

The head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed confidence that Poland will continue to adhere to the one-China policy and support the cause of national reunification of China.

K. Nawrocki, in turn, emphasized that since 1949 the Polish government has recognized the government of the People's Republic of China as the only legitimate government representing all of China, and will continue to firmly adhere to the principle of one China.

The parties also exchanged views on the Ukrainian crisis and other issues of mutual interest.

During his visit, Wang Yi also held talks with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and co-chaired the 4th meeting of the China-Poland Intergovernmental Cooperation Commission. –0–
