BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — The eighth ministerial meeting on law enforcement and security cooperation between China and Myanmar was held in Beijing on Monday.
The current meeting was co-chaired by Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong and Myanmar Home Affairs Minister Tun Tun Naung.
Wang Xiaohong expressed the Chinese side's readiness to work in good faith with its Myanmar partners to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, actively implement the Global Security Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, deepen cooperation in law enforcement and security, strengthen communication and coordination within the framework of multilateral mechanisms, jointly combat telecommunications fraud, drug trafficking and other major types of cross-border crime, and organize joint training programs to build law enforcement capacity.
The minister also called for joint maintenance of peace in border areas and ensuring the safety of Chinese personnel, structures and projects in Myanmar.
Tun Tun Naung, for his part, assessed bilateral cooperation as fruitful since the seventh ministerial meeting.
According to him, Myanmar expresses gratitude to China for the assistance and support it has provided over the years. The Myanmar side is ready to take concrete and effective measures to strengthen the fight against cross-border crimes and do everything possible to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, structures and projects in Myanmar, the minister assured. -0-
