CARACAS, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Monday that communication channels between the United States and Venezuela have been severed by Washington amid "constant aggression."

“Today I can announce that communication with the US government has been severed,” N. Maduro said at a press conference in the country’s capital, Caracas.

The president blamed the breakup on “threats and blackmail” from Washington and stressed that, despite provocations from the US, Venezuela “managed to maintain peace.”

Venezuela has faced difficulties over the past five weeks but has tried to maintain stability, Maduro said, adding that the country is exercising its legitimate right to defend itself against political, diplomatic and potential military aggression. –0–
