The I.S. Turgenev Library and Reading Room invites you to a lecture entitled “Mysteries of an Old Estate,” which will introduce guests to the little-known history of the building located at 6 Bobrov Lane, buildings 1–3. During restoration, fragments of masonry from the 17th–18th centuries were discovered, which allowed us to reconsider previous ideas about the age and owners of the estate. Listeners will learn who it belonged to in the 18th–19th centuries, what role representatives of the noble family of Petrovo-Solovovo played in the history of the building, and what is remarkable about the period of its ownership by the merchant family of Gerasimovs. Particular attention will be paid to the connection between the estate and the name of Ivan Turgenev.
The lecture will be given by the head of the department of rare books and memorial work, Elena Nikolaeva.
