Tashkent, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — A large gas field has been discovered in Uzbekistan, local media reported on Tuesday, citing the press service of the Uzbek president.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reportedly made the statement on Monday.
"Previously, exploration work in the oil and gas sector was carried out only at a depth of 2.5-3 thousand meters. This year, for the first time in the history of our mining industry, 6.5 thousand meters were drilled in Ustyurt, and a very large gas field was discovered," the head of state said.
“In the era of the ‘fourth industrial revolution’, demand for technological minerals is growing worldwide. Our region is estimated to hold 10-15 percent of the world’s reserves of tungsten, molybdenum, zinc and titanium. To transform these vast resources into high-value-added products, science, knowledge and innovation are essential,” the statement said. –0–
