BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — A ministerial meeting on law enforcement and security cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin was held in Beijing on Monday, with participants agreeing to strengthen cooperation.

The meeting was chaired by State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong.

Recalling that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism, Wang Xiaohong said in his keynote speech that in recent years, law enforcement agencies in the countries in the basin have been conscientiously implementing the consensus reached at the meetings of the leaders of these countries, jointly ensuring security and stability in the region, and have already achieved a number of cooperation results that have brought tangible benefits to the people of all the countries in the Lancang-Mekong basin.

The Chinese minister called on all parties to implement the Global Security Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, improve the framework for regional security governance, combat transnational crimes such as telecommunications and online fraud, and fully support the development of the Lancang-Mekong Region Comprehensive Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center.

Wang Xiaohong pointed out the need to jointly enhance law enforcement capacity, ensure security through cooperation and ensure development through security. He called for jointly building a peaceful, safe, prosperous, beautiful and friendly home in the Lancang-Mekong Basin, and promoting the in-depth and productive construction of a community with a shared future for the Lancang-Mekong countries.

The heads of delegations from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam said they would actively implement the meeting's outcomes and promote cooperation in law enforcement and security in the Lancang-Mekong region.

The meeting adopted a Joint Statement on Deepening Cooperation in Combating Transnational Crime and a Joint Statement on Deepening Cooperation in Joint Patrols and Law Enforcement on the Mekong River. –0–
