Tatyana Golikova presented the third Hermitage Prize in the field of culture and art
On the final day of the XI St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures, a ceremony to award the Hermitage Prize in the field of culture and art took place in the St. George Hall of the Winter Palace.
"The Hermitage Prize was born as a sign of respect for Russian and foreign cultural figures for their contribution to the development of world culture and the formation of cultural dialogue. In the first two years, its laureates were iconic people in the world – Valery Gergiev, Boris Eifman, Nacho Duato, Polad Bulbul oglu," noted Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Chair of the Forum Organizing Committee Tatyana Golikova.
She thanked all the participants of the XI St. Petersburg Forum of United Cultures and hospitable St. Petersburg, expressing hope that the discussions held during the forum would benefit the development of the cultures of the states.
"The Hermitage Prize emphasizes the importance of St. Petersburg as a custodian of world heritage, a city that unites cultures and peoples. Today we are awarding two outstanding people. It is difficult to imagine the cultural life of St. Petersburg without them. I congratulate the winners of the Hermitage Prize on behalf of all residents of the city. May St. Petersburg always inspire you to new successes!" said St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov.
He especially thanked all the foreign guests of the forum who came to St. Petersburg despite the difficulties.
This year's Russian laureate of the Hermitage Prize in the field of culture and art is Mikhail Piotrovsky, a renowned scholar, orientalist with a worldwide reputation, an intellectual, and an erudite person who has headed the State Hermitage for more than three decades.
The award was presented to him by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova and Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov.
"This is a great honor, I am shocked. This is what the year has been like: the President personally presented me with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, 1st class, and now the Hermitage Prize. It bears the name of the great museum to which my family and I have dedicated our lives. And there is nothing more wonderful than to be recognized by your museum. This prize goes to the Hermitage, which constantly confirms its role in the world, in culture, in art, its right to bear this wonderful name, which is meaningful to the whole world. The Hermitage is trying to do a lot so that the Forum of United Cultures, a powerful innovation in world cultural life, can continue to flourish," Mikhail Piotrovsky emphasized.
The foreign laureate of the Hermitage Prize was Teodor Currentzis, conductor, artistic director of musicAeterna. He was unable to attend the ceremony. The commemorative diploma of the prize was received on his behalf by Pavel Kurdakov, director of the orchestra musicAeterna.
"Teodor Currentzis is a very famous conductor in the world, a man who chose our country with his creativity and spirit, who develops world and Russian art with great pleasure. I am sure that the contribution of all the Hermitage Prize laureates to the development of Russian and world culture will continue," noted Tatyana Golikova.
The Hermitage Prize has been awarded since 2023. Its symbol is a copy of the Great Kolyvan Vase, a masterpiece of Russian stone-cutting art from the early 19th century, a famous exhibit of the State Hermitage.
