MADRID, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — China's determination to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests is unwavering, and the Chinese side will firmly safeguard its national interests as well as the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Chinese-funded enterprises, Vice Premier He Lifeng said in Madrid on Monday.
He made this statement during trade and economic negotiations with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamison Greer, which took place from September 14 to 15.
According to He Lifeng, during the talks, the two sides, guided by the important consensus reached by the two heads of state during their telephone conversation, held a frank, in-depth and constructive discussion on trade and economic issues of mutual interest. According to him, the two sides reached a basic framework consensus on resolving issues related to the TikTok social network through cooperation, reducing investment barriers and promoting relevant trade and economic cooperation.
The Deputy Prime Minister of China said that the parties will hold consultations on the relevant final documents and carry out domestic procedures for their approval.
On the TikTok issue, He Lifeng said that China will issue technology export permits in accordance with laws and regulations. He added that the Chinese government fully respects the will of Chinese companies operating overseas and supports them in conducting commercial negotiations with their partners on an equal basis and in line with market principles.
The Vice Premier pointed out that the essence of China-US economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win, saying that both sides have ample scope for cooperation and extensive common interests.
He added that cooperation brings benefits to both China and the US, while confrontation leads to losses for both sides.
He Lifeng called on the US side to move towards China, lift relevant restrictions on China as soon as possible, jointly protect the hard-won results of the negotiations with concrete actions, and continue to create a favorable atmosphere for the stability of China-US trade and economic relations.
During the talks, the parties unanimously recognized that stable Chinese-American trade and economic relations are of great importance to both countries and also have a significant impact on the stability and development of the global economy.
