SHANGHAI, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — An international conference on Central Asia and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held Saturday at the SCO International Legal Training and Cooperation Center (China) based at Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, bringing together nearly 100 scholars from universities and research institutions in countries including China, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
The conference was devoted to such topics as the sustainable development of the SCO, the settlement of regional conflicts, cooperation in the areas of security, economy and culture, the historical significance of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the future development of the organization.
The conference provided a comprehensive overview of the progress and future plans of SCO cooperation in three main areas: security, economy and people-to-people exchanges. Experts called for deepening cooperation in combating terrorism and drugs, promoting trade ties and emerging industries, and promoting exchanges and mutual learning to bring peoples closer together.
Participants of the event stated that multifaceted cooperation not only brought real benefits to the SCO member states, but also laid a solid foundation for the long-term development of the region.
In addition, the conference discussed current issues regarding digital security and artificial intelligence (AI). The conference participants called on the organization's member states to strengthen information security governance, jointly respond to the challenges of the digital era and seize the relevant opportunities, and promote the development of responsible AI. -0-
