BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — China has congratulated Sushila Karki on taking office as prime minister of Nepal's interim government, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Sunday.

Former Chief Justice of Nepal Sushila Karki took office as the prime minister of the country's interim government on Friday evening after the previous prime minister, Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, resigned on September 9.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that China and Nepal have a long history of traditional friendship and China has always respected the development path independently chosen by the Nepalese people.

China is willing to work with Nepal to advance the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and push forward the further development of bilateral ties, a Chinese diplomat said. -0-
