INCHONG, South Korea, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) — China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Friday held a joint ceremony to hand over the remains and personal belongings of 30 Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) who died in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid the Korean People (1950-1953), the Chinese Embassy in the ROK said.
The ceremony to hand over the 12th batch of remains of Chinese soldiers was held at Incheon International Airport, west of the capital Seoul, with Chinese Vice Minister of Veterans Affairs Ma Feixiong and Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Dai Bing attending.
Dai Bing covered the coffins containing the remains of the fallen soldiers with the national flag of China. All participants in the ceremony bowed to the remains, expressing their sorrow and respect.
A Chinese honor guard escorted the coffins to a PLA Air Force plane, which carried the remains of the fallen heroes to China.
Since 2014, China and the Republic of Korea have been transferring the remains of Chinese People's Volunteers. Over the past 12 years, the remains of 1,011 fallen heroes have been transferred.
The cooperation reflects the willingness of China and South Korea to overcome historical estrangement and move toward a peaceful and friendly future. The Chinese side highly appreciates the efforts of the South Korean side to provide active assistance, the Chinese Embassy in South Korea said. –0–
