WASHINGTON, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday said the alleged intrusion of Russian drones into Polish airspace "may have been a mistake" and expressed dissatisfaction over the incident.
"It could have been a mistake. But despite that, I am not happy with everything that is connected with this situation," D. Trump told reporters.
“I hope this will all end,” the president added.
His comments contrast with harsh statements from European leaders, some of whom have accused Russia of deliberately launching drones to test the readiness of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Russia has rejected the accusations made by Poland, the European Union and NATO. The Russian Defense Ministry said none of the targets of the strikes were in Poland. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the EU and NATO accuse Russia of provocations every day without providing evidence. –0–
