BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) — The 17th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) of China concluded in Beijing on Friday.

At the final meeting, the Atomic Energy Act, the Public Health Emergency Response Act, the National Parks Act, the revised Arbitration Act, the Rule of Law Promotion and Education Act, and decisions to amend the Food Safety Act were adopted by vote.

In addition, the meeting decided to relieve Pan Yue of his post as Chairman of the State Committee for Nationalities and appoint Chen Ruifeng to this post.

Chinese President Xi Jinping signed decrees concerning the adoption of the above-mentioned laws and decisions.

The closing meeting of the 17th session of the 14th NPC Standing Committee was chaired by NPC Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji.

During the meeting, legislators ratified the extradition treaty and the agreement on mutual legal assistance in civil and commercial matters between the PRC and the Republic of Serbia.

The report of the Credentials Committee of the Standing Committee of the NPC on the powers of individual deputies and a number of documents on personnel changes were also adopted.

Speaking at the closing session, Zhao Leji stressed the need to comprehensively and accurately understand the meaning, significance and practical requirements of the Global Governance Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and integrate this understanding into the NPC's work on external relations.

The NPC Standing Committee chairman also called for people's congresses to effectively perform their duties in legislation and supervision, and to promote the effective implementation of the Constitution of the PRC, the Law on Patriotic Education and the Law on the Protection of the Honor and Dignity of Martyrs and Heroes.

Before the closing session, Zhao Leji presided over a meeting of the chairman and vice-chairmen of the NPC Standing Committee, and after the closing session, he presided over a thematic seminar for legislators held by the NPC Standing Committee. –0–
