BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) — The Hong Kong Airport Authority has signed memorandums of understanding with Kazakhstan's Shymkent Airport and Uzbekistan's Uzbekistan Airports JSC.

The ceremony was held in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Thursday. The event was aimed at boosting flights in the region and promoting cooperation in aviation development, according to the Hong Kong Airport Authority's official website.

According to a statement by Hong Kong Airport Director Zhang-Li Jiahui, the parties agreed to launch more flights on routes linking the Hong Kong SAR with cities in Central Asia.

Plans to train aviation specialists have also been announced. Since 2017, more than 380,000 people from Hong Kong, mainland China and other countries have applied to the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy, including 530 people from Belt and Road countries.

As of March 2025, Hong Kong International Airport has established flights to 58 destinations, 36 of which are located in countries participating in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Hong Kong Airport Authority is making great efforts to strengthen the area's position as a leading international aviation hub in Asia and an important gateway linking the country's interior with the outside world, it said in a statement. -0-
